Russians poaching squirrels to keep as pets

Russians love squirrels, maybe a little too much.

Apparently there is a craze for keeping squirrels as pets, causing people to catch them in city parks and resell them to pet owners on the internet.

The Toronto Star wrote a story about it: Why squirrels are mysteriously disappearing from Moscow’s parks

Squirrel Comics

Justin Boyd draws this great webcomic called invisible bread. Perhaps you’ve seen it?

Many of them feature squirrels, because as Justin says: “Squirrels are the best =)”.

Apparently Squirrels live Outside—who knew?

They also have a poor understanding of gift giving because they are just squirrels.

Moar!

Squirrel tunnelling in the snow

This little red squirrel is creating his own subway system.

It’s cute to watch him pop up in a different place each time.

A chipmunk at dawn

I put some sunflower seeds on a stone wall near some bird feeders to see if I could attract some of the local chipmunks.

They allowed me to snap these pictures as they gathered the seeds and brought them back to their burrows to store them for the winter.

They also seemed to enjoy sunning themselves on this chilly fall morning.

Our cutest squirrel picture yet?

Our site was the victim of a DOS attack and was knocked offline for a couple of days.

Apparently somebody in Nigeria really hates squirrels.

But don’t worry, just like squirrels, our server has been around since the Oligocene and isn’t going anywhere.
