The Daily Home, of Talladega, Ala. reported a sighting of a white squirrel in the area.
When asked what it was doing, the squirrel was unable to comment because it is a squirrel, but the article speculates that the squirrel was “Looking for food,” which is almost certainly true.
The article has some interesting information about the genetic causes of white fur in eastern grey squirrels.
In Toronto we have a few white squirrels in Trinity Bellwoods Park. They have become a sort of unofficial mascot of the area, there is even a coffee shop, White Squirrel Coffee, named after them.
I also used to spot them in Montreal once in a while.
My mom lives in Munford at the foot of Cheaha Mountain where she spotted a white squirrel in her front yard a few years ago. I dont know the life span of a squirrel but this one hung around for about four years. It really was something to see.
I live in central Alabama a little town called Slapout, AL. We live in the country and spotted a white squirrel once last year and again this year, not the same squirrel, this one was much smaller than the former one. I was able to get up close and get some wonderful pictures. It had the pink albino eyes and was just beautiful.
[We got in touch with Wanda who was nice enough to let us post her pictures. Ed.]
My family lives in Slapout, AL and they see 2 white squirrels in a big oak tree behind their business.
